1400 meters above the ground

Traditional marathon from the Eastern to the Western coast of Baikal will take place on March, 7 during Winteriada festival. This marathon is unique because its classic distance (42 km 195 m) path is made over Baikal Lake ice. More than 1300 of the distance lay over abyssal depths, 1400 meters above Baikal bottom.
In 2007 Pavilion Books included Lake Baikal International Ice Marathon in the list of 25 most impressive extreme races of the planet.
Winteriada Baikal Nordic Games festival also includes such events as Baikal Prize Open Ice Golf Tournament, Ice Safari Expedition, dog sledge runs, snow volleyball and football competitions, extreme cross country skiing championship.
