Blossoming Tazheran steppe

The particular world of the Baikal shorelines – Tazherran steppe: it is the shelter of the emperor sea eagle, an artist’s palette of blossoming grasses. Nowhere else in the world can you see Olchon’s Astragal, Hedysarum Zundukii Peschkova, and Oxytropis Peschkova. This area is completely different to other parts of the Baikal shoreline; here one experiences a completely different microclimate and landscape. As if rising up from the eternity of the hills, one is reminded here of the time of the dinosaurs. As if making way, the hills open up an expanse for a herd of cantering horses. Tethering posts tied with coloured ribbons, and in the blue sky the silhouette of the sea eagle. The feeling of eternity and perfection in the creation of this world will fill you with tranquility and beauty.

Itinerary:

1 day	Departure from Irkutsk 9am The road goes alongside Kachug, wchich is the old Yakutsk track through Ust Orlingsky Buryat autonomous area. Then through the Primorskiy mountain range descending into the Elantsy settlement, from whence begins the Tazherran steppe. Excursion to the salt lakes. On arrival at the ‘small sea’, we settle in to the tourist camp.
2 day	Excursion to the Sarminsky ravine, with a view over the ‘small sea’, lunch will consist of a picnic.
3 day	Excursion to the Orso peninsular, where one can see a fantastic view over the whole of Baikal. After lunch move on to Olkhon island by ferry, in the evening excursion to Elginsky lake.
4 day	Excursion to the northern end of the island. A stop at Sandy Bay, “Peschanna”, where the Olchon'd Astragal grows. We shall visit the Khaboi peninsular and the Uzuri meteorological station. A walk along the beach for 3 or so hours. Here we shall see many rare Siberian plants, some which are endemic to this area like Oxytropis triphylla. After lunch we return to the tourist camp, with a stop at Kharantsiy settlement. After dinner folklore concert.
5 day	Departure from Olkhon island after breakfast, visit to the museum of Buryat culture and history at the Ust-Orda settlement. Return to Irkutsk.
