Hiking and Rafting around Kamchatka

During this active trip we will visit several unique places of the peninsular: active volcanoes Mutnovsky & Avachinsky that are considered to be among the most beautiful volcanoes of Kamchatka, and the restored Geysers Valley. We will have a sea walk along Avacha Bay and the Pacific Ocean; will see the biggest sea bird's nests of Kamchatka. We will raft along the Bystraya river, which flows through a monumental mountain range. You will have an opportunity  to observe  Kamchatka's  typical wild animals: brown bears, birds and salmon passing up the rivers.

Itinerary:

Day 1

Arrival at the airport, transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (20 km). Accommodation at a hotel, rest.

Day 2

Sea trip along Avacha Bay. Watching sea birds nest on Babushkin Kamen (Granny’s Stone) and Tree Brata (Three Brothers) islands. Short trip in the Pacific Ocean to the Starichkov island. Sea fishing, seal rookery observation. You might also see whales ans dolphins. Lunch with fresh fish soup.
After the boat trip drive to Mutnovsky volcano (80 km). Setting up the camp. Night in tents.

Day 3

Ascent to the crater of Mutnovsky volcano (2323 m). Active fumaroles, mud siphons, mud craters, mountain lake. The crater of Mutnovsky volcano is one of the most wonderful volcanic phenomenon of Kamchatka. Steep walls surround wide and deep crater with shining glaciers. Ascending takes 8 hours.
Night in tents.

Day 4

Tour to Gorely volcano (1829 m), along the coulee (hardened lava-stream), slag fields, eight craters with lakes in it. The tour takes 8 hours.
Driving back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (100km). Accommodation at a hotel (DBL), rest.

Day 5

Free day. Optional helicopter tour to the Geysers Valley: flight around Karymsky (1486 m) and Maly Semyachik (1560 m) volcanoes, walking excursion at the Valley.
There are more than 20 big geysers in the valley. Velican (Giant), Zhemchuzhny (Pearly), Sakharny (Sugary), Troinoi (Triple), Konus (Cone), Fontan (Fountain), Maly (Small), Bolshoy (Big), Shchel (Split) – here are some names. There are geysers that gush forth every 10-12 minutes, while others may erupt once in 4-5 hours. The wreathes of steam, fountains of boiling water, incredible colours of slopes, hot water streaming along them and profound greenery of grasses and trees create an enchanting scenery. Lunch is served at the Valley.
In the afternoon we travel to Avachinsky volcano by car (45 km). Accommodation at a tourist lodge.

Day 6

Ascent to Avachinsky volcano (2749 m). Walk to the young cone of the volcano. The view from the edge of the volcano is absolutely stunning: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski, Elizovo, valley of Avacha river and Avacha Bay; Vilyuchinsky, Mutnovsky and Gorely volcanoes - to the south; the Nalychevo river valley, Zhupanovsky & Dzenzur volcanoes – to the north. The massive cone of Koryak volcano is seen to the west. Ascent takes about 6-8 hours.

Day 7

Easy walk along the slopes of Koryaksky volcano and to Verblud (Camel) mount (4-5 hours).
Accommodation at a tourist lodge.

Day 8

Drive to the Bystraya river (120 km). Rafting. The river passes between magnificent mountains but you will have to focus your attention on the river as there are several rapids. Nethertheless even unexperienced rafters can handle it easily.
Night in tents.

Day 9

Rafting along the Bystraya river (2 rapids). During the day you will be able to go fishing, pick mushrooms and berries, watch birds, wild ducks and many other animals. If you are lucky you will see a bear or a Steller’s sea eagle.
Night in tents.

Day 10

Rafting along Bystraya river (1 rapid). Driving back to Petropavlovsk. (180 km).
Accommodation.

Day 11

Visit to the fish market. Shopping. Souvenirs. Transfer to the airport.
